BLAYDON CAR BOOT SALE – Price changes

From 24th July we  will be updating our Car Boot prices.

The updated pricing system, has been something we held off doing since March 2020, when we took the decision to wait until, restrictions on people’s lives, freedom of movement and earning capacities were lifted.

We hope you appreciate that the raise is long overdue and necessary, and has been kept at a competitive and considerate rate.

Rising Stars join Newcastle Falcons’ ‘ACE’ Programme

Following the exciting news of Trevor Davison linking up with the England Summer Training Squad yesterday, we’ve had more good news from our U16 squad.
Sam Green and Ewan Brown have been accepted into the Newcastle Falcons’ ‘ACE’ scheme at Gosforth Academy, which produces a valuable pipeline of players for the first team squad and beyond.
The duo will get full time rugby coaching alongside subjects at BTEC and A-Levels. The ACE programme has already helped to nurture professional players including George McGuigan, Callum Chick, Tom Marshall and Morgan Passman.
Paul Vinnicombe has developed the U16 squad into a fine group from scratch and must take huge pride in this fantastic news. Well done Paul Vinnicombe and your fellows coaches for your efforts over the years.
We wish these two fine young men all the best in their future rugby development and hopefully you’ll still be able to play for Blaydon Academy at some point, which is going from strength to strength.

Walking Rugby sessions extended, now also available at 6pm on Tuesday night, starting next Tuesday 27th April:

As the interest in walking rugby grows we’ve introduced an evening session with the Blaydon Racers to cater for those who can’t fit in a day time session. Some of the team are taking part in this extra session to ensure its runs smoothly.

It’s great exercise, you’ll put more into it than you think, great craic with like-minded rugby players (you’re never an Ex player really)  or those who want to get involved who haven’t played before. All of the fun of the game without the impacts, come along and get involved

Club Announcements:

Following what has been an unprecedented period, with government guidelines keeping our club closed, it has undoubtedly been the most difficult period for everyone involved in hospitality and although the government has a route map to recover, there is still a level of uncertainty for things fully returning to normal. As a result of this we unfortunately have to announce the end of an era with two key changes for the club:

House Manager at Blaydon RFC

After many years at Blaydon RFC, as House Manager, it is with regret we announce Sharon has decided to make a career change and leave her role at Blaydon RFC.

Sharon is one of the most dedicate, committed employees you could have. She has been at the centre of day to day operation of the club, organising many aspects, working tirelessly to develop a very successful functions capability, which helped generate much needed revenue for the club.

Sharon is working with the people who have functions booked to ensure the success of each event and she will work with her replacement (interim or permanent) during her notice period to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities to the new House Manager.

We would like to thank Sharon for everything she has done for Blaydon RFC, wish her every success in the future and look forward to welcoming her on the other side of the bar at Blaydon RFC in future.

Blaydon RFC will be looking for new House Manager, anyone interested in the role should contact us via email:  contact@blaydonrfc.co.uk

Catering at Blaydon RFC

With the club being unable to offer Functions requiring Catering at Blaydon RFC for such a long period, AMOW Catering have re-assessed their business and decided to withdraw from the ongoing Catering Contact with Blaydon RFC.

AMOW Catering Ltd. have been a long serving valued Catering Partner of Blaydon RFC and it is with regret we announce this, whilst we also understand this has been a very difficult period for companies providing services around hospitality. We would like to thank Andy (AMOW) for his service and wish him every success in the future.

To ensure functions at Blaydon RFC are not impacted, AMOW Catering have agreed to continue to provide function catering until end of June, to allow the club to appoint a new catering partner.

Blaydon RFC will be looking for new Catering Partner, to ensure we are able to continue to offer the same high standards of catering. Interest from companies in the first instance should be registered via email:  contact@blaydonrfc.co.uk

It is with deep sadness that we share the news that one of the Blaydon Rugby Football Club family: Robin Walker passed away overnight following a period of illness.

Thursday 11th March 2021

It is with deep sadness that we share the news that one of the Blaydon Rugby Football Club family: Robin Walker passed away overnight following a period of illness.

Robin was a true club man and represented Blaydon Rugby Club superbly in many ways…

  • As a player, he played at all levels in the club moving down the teams to continue to play as years rolled on and then returned as a physio, such was his love of the his club and the game that is rugby. Couple of headlines:
      •  Came out of 1st team retirement to help club out when needed and played tight head against Ian McLauchlan (Mighty Mouse) versus Jordon Hill
      •  He started as a winger at Durham School
  • As a physio – keeping many of the older Bricks players on the park far longer than they should have been there
  • As a volunteer – arranging carnivals, groups and other events to help fund raising
  • As Blaydon RFC Santa, for many years bringing joy to the children’s parties of the members at Blaydon RFC

Robin was a lovely man and a great bloke.

Our thoughts at this time are with Christine and his family, RIP Robin, You will be greatly missed and long remembered by all who knew you!

Further information and details will be posted as they become available.
