Match report 3rd February; Billingham Lions 29, Blaydon Georgians 12

The Georgians travelled to play Billingham who are flying high in the league this year , with only 18 players available to us. Injuries are crippling us ,and availability, whilst improving , still needs a higher level of commitment.

Once the whitewash was crossed by the players , then commitment was no longer an issue and tackling and supporting your team mates was never in doubt and we took the game to Billingham.

We pressed and attacked a much bigger side and put them under pressure to force mistakes and keep the ball away from them. Unfortunately in the first half there was an occasional gap that appeared, which good teams will exploit and Billingham scored 4 tries and swept up the pitch to take advantage of our frailty.

We did however score a great try from a great line ran by Rob Pyle  which finished one of our many attacks, clinically.

The second half saw us increase our intensity and again keep Billingham in their half for large periods of time through strong running by Pyle, Todd and Winter. Still with that threat of a break away, that happened early on in the half making the score 29-5.

Instead of caving in we upped our game again and with Rhys Burt orchestrating play with clever darting  runs and tremendous kicks into the corners and space. We attacked their line again and again until luke Tonks passed to Joey Davidson who barged and twisted his way over the line .

Making the final score 29-12 and a feeling that we had put up a good performance and account of ourselves .
