It is with deep sadness that we share the news that Russ Teasdale, passed away peacefully on Tuesday 25th of June

Russ (Russell) Teasdale was a tall powerful centre threequarter for Blaydon in the 60’s & 70’s. His speed and strength contributed many tries while his long distance goal kicking was always a reassuring bonus to the team.

His trade mark: For tries between the posts, him placing the kick only 5 yards out always gave the opposition hope of a charge down! The resulting conversion came with no movement other than a swing of the leg and a toe poke – no chance of reaching him.

Russ was one of the last surviving members of the Blaydon cup team, playing in the losing final 1962/63 v Durham City, unlucky to lose 9 – 3, playing against England’s fly-half Mike Weston.

Russ was still attending games until recently.

Our thoughts are with his family at this time
