Celebration of life: John ‘Gypsy’ Davidson – Saturday 28th August from 2pm

Celebration of life: John ‘Gypsy’ Davidson – Saturday 28th August

John’s family and Blaydon RFC are hosting a celebration of Gypsy’s life, at the club from 2pm on Saturday 28th August.

It would be great to see current & former players, coaches, supporters, friends and anyone he greeted as you entered our bar, turn out to share this day.

Don’t think anyone will ever forget the turn out on the day of his last drive through Blaydon RFC.

Message from his family:

You can arrive anytime that suits you from 2:00pm onwards.

There will be a number of rugby games on; with; 1s, 2s and Bricks all having games.

At around 4:30 we are playing an old video of the famous Sugar Plum Fairies routine.

We aren’t fundraising as such, but one thing John really hated was dropped litter and fly tipping. We thought as a little nod to this we would have a few collection tins dotted about for Keep Britain Tidy. We feel he would have seen the funny side in that.

It’s just a come and go as you please fun day to remember this lovely man who brightened so many people’s lives, look forward to seeing you if you can make it.

New Matchday Volunteers Required

Good Afternoon All,
As you know the new rugby season will soon be upon us, as BRFC First Team are due to play against Loughborough Students on Saturday 4th September 2021.
The club needs some new volunteers for various roles on Matchdays to share the load with our current group, who have been involved for many years. The roles in question are as follows:
Assistant Fourth Officials
We are looking to add to the existing group in order to spread the games out more throughout the season. As you know the first team got promoted to National 2 North and there is a requirement within this league to provide two fourth officials for home games.
The National 2 North league is made up of 16 teams, so we need to cover 15 home games, our existing Fourth Officials are available for the first few home games, so the plan will be to have a group of 2-3 people shadowing Keith or Archie during these matches.
I have a Fourth Official Protocol to provide more information as to what the role entails (please email me if you are interested).
Gatekeepers
Taking Entry Fees and provide General Advice on parking/WC Facilities etc as visitors arrive. After 14 years of being the Head Gatekeeper, Linda Barlow is stepping down and we need a few volunteers to share the role with Brian and Ossy (please email me if interested)
Match Reporter
Do we have any budding reporters in the club? A requirement of being within the National 2 North is that we need to provide a Match Report for each home game, now we are looking into this at the moment to establish what is involved, however we think it will entail a piece of 80-100 words, providing some background on the game, scorers, any issues/events, special plays etc etc etc (please email me if you are interested, this can be more than one person to share the load throughout the season)
Many thanks for taking the time to read this post and a special thanks to our existing volunteers who do a lot of work behind the scenes, whether this is on Match Days, coaching during the week etc without you all the club would struggle on many fronts.
Regards

BLAYDON CAR BOOT SALE – Price changes

From 24th July we  will be updating our Car Boot prices.

The updated pricing system, has been something we held off doing since March 2020, when we took the decision to wait until, restrictions on people’s lives, freedom of movement and earning capacities were lifted.

We hope you appreciate that the raise is long overdue and necessary, and has been kept at a competitive and considerate rate.

More Positive News from the Youth Section

More positive news from our Youth Section, seven of this season’s u15s team have been selected for 4 x Development Sessions at Kingston Park with Newcastle Falcons Academy over the off season.
Ben Harrison, Max Gordon & Jamie Lane are currently involved and will finish their block of 4 on today.
Rhys Burt is next up, starting on Thursday.
Rhys Beeckmans, Leo Suiliman & James Witham will follow in a later group.
This is a fantastic representation from one team and everyone involved with the u15s are extremely proud and we all look forward to seeing where this may lead to for the lads.
Good Luck from all at BRFC.

Rising Stars join Newcastle Falcons’ ‘ACE’ Programme

Following the exciting news of Trevor Davison linking up with the England Summer Training Squad yesterday, we’ve had more good news from our U16 squad.
Sam Green and Ewan Brown have been accepted into the Newcastle Falcons’ ‘ACE’ scheme at Gosforth Academy, which produces a valuable pipeline of players for the first team squad and beyond.
The duo will get full time rugby coaching alongside subjects at BTEC and A-Levels. The ACE programme has already helped to nurture professional players including George McGuigan, Callum Chick, Tom Marshall and Morgan Passman.
Paul Vinnicombe has developed the U16 squad into a fine group from scratch and must take huge pride in this fantastic news. Well done Paul Vinnicombe and your fellows coaches for your efforts over the years.
We wish these two fine young men all the best in their future rugby development and hopefully you’ll still be able to play for Blaydon Academy at some point, which is going from strength to strength.

Walking Rugby sessions extended, now also available at 6pm on Tuesday night, starting next Tuesday 27th April:

As the interest in walking rugby grows we’ve introduced an evening session with the Blaydon Racers to cater for those who can’t fit in a day time session. Some of the team are taking part in this extra session to ensure its runs smoothly.

It’s great exercise, you’ll put more into it than you think, great craic with like-minded rugby players (you’re never an Ex player really)  or those who want to get involved who haven’t played before. All of the fun of the game without the impacts, come along and get involved

Follow Blaydon Walking Rugby Facebook page to get involved
