On behalf of the members of Blaydon Rugby Club I welcome all our visitors today to Crow Trees and trust you have an enjoyable visit, whichever team you may be supporting
In this our 9th year in National 1 we continue to uphold the standards of play and fairness both on and off the field as we host, and travel to, teams from throughout England. It is a real pleasure to be benefitting from such a high standard of Rugby which in recent years has showcased many young men who have gone onto full time professional rugby careers.
Sport in the North East is going through difficult times with the job and lifestyle opportunities offered by London and the South East a big draw for all sportsmen and women. However our area has long been able to produce outstanding talents and will continue to do so over future years.
Rugby is in great shape after the World Cup and the whole country recognised the ability and sportsmanship of the All Blacks (New Zealand, if you are Australian ! ) and they have set a standard for the Northern Hemisphere teams to try and emulate.
At Blaydon we strive to provide excellence and entertainment at all levels of senior and youth rugby and produce rugby players who, irrespective of their ability, will continue to be a credit to this sport.
My continued thanks to our band of volunteers who enable this Club to thrive at this Level from the Executive Committee, to 4th officials, Car Park attendants and Car Boot volunteers. There remain plenty of opportunities to be involved so please let our Secretary Jim Huxley know if you have some spare time.
I would also thank all our many Sponsors for their continued support but in particular Graeme Kalbraier and his Company Call Connection
We look forward to an entertaining game of rugby today and a chance to meet up with old and new friends.in the Clubhouse later.
